Bethany Daley, Manila High School senior, signed a letter of intent to play softball at Dyersburg State Community College.

Randy Hulme, head coach for the Lady Eagles Softball team, was in Manila on Monday for the signing ceremony.

Also present were Manila's softball coach Codie Malloy and Bethany's parents, Jeff and Terry Daley.

Catcher for the Manila High School Lady Lions, she has enjoyed playing softball since she was in elementary school. She has played on the high school team since her sophomore year.

Hulme, who is in his seventh season as head softball coach at DSCC, said the Lady Eagles finished sixth in Region 7 last year.

"We are the smallest college in the region," Hulme said.

Hulme said Bethany's name came up from a former Manila student at DSCC.

"We started calling around and Bethany got a good recommendation," Hulme said. "She showed a lot of interest in our program. I am pleased to welcome her to DSCC. We work hard and compete to win. We expect Bethany to catch and play other positions. We want our girls to be ready to go on to a four year school and be multi-positional."

Bethany plans to study communications. She is looking forward to continuing her softball career at the college level.
