Michael Shedd hit and pitched the Manila Lions past Westside 10-5 Thursday afternoon in Jonesboro. Shedd went 3-3 at the plate, scored three runs, and drove in a run while he picked up the win on the mound as the Lions improved to 6-2 on the season.
Shedd (2-0) went five innings, giving up five runs on five hits while striking out three and walking a pair of batters. B.J. Stone and Chase Shelton also banged out a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs each to pace the Lion attack.
Manila started the week by sweeping a double header Tuesday afternoon at Trumann. Manila blasted their way past the Wildcats 11-6 in the opener and then came back with a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
Cody Wells went 3-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Lions to victory in the opener. P.J. Brumley was a perfect 3-3 at the plate while driving in three runs. Frankie Cowgill was 2-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Chad Nunnally went five innings to pick up the win, allowing six hits while striking out six.
Wells capped off a 5-6 day by going 2-2 in the nightcap. Wells (2-1) gained the victory with six strong innings on the mound. The senior righthander gave up two earned runs while scattering nine hits. Wells struck out three while walking only two.
Manila will return to action Tuesday afternoon when the Lions travel to Gosnell to play a doubleheader against the Pirates. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00. Manila will then travel to Jonesboro for the X-tra Innings Tournament March 23-25.
