Riverside scored early and often as they built up a commanding 28-7 first period lead en route to a convincing 70-43 victory over Bay in the quarter-finals of the 3AA North District Tournament Tuesday afternoon at Marmaduke. The win sends the Lady Rebels into the Region 4 Tournament beginning Wednesday at Earle.
Sam Dunigan started the early Riverside barrage by hitting three straight treys in the opening minutes as the Rebels raced to a 20-3 lead with 3:24 left in the opening quarter. Dunigan finished the first quarter with 15 of her 17 points. Emilee Hook also came up big in the first half, scoring 13 of her game high 19 points as the Rebels took a 41-28 lead into intermission.
The Lady Rebels put the game away in the third quarter as they built a 55-38 lead entering the final frame. Marisa Johnson also hit double figures for Riverside scoring 16 points. The Rebels got scoring support from Natasha Coffey who had nine while Kassie Douglas and Kelsey Turner added three points apiece. Emma Wilson tallied two while freshman Kailey Holt pitched in one. Riverside finished 12-18 from the foul line and nailed four three pointers on the day.
Senior All-Conference point guard Sam Carter led Bay with 16 points while Jera Ferguson scored 13 and sophomore Meghon Mink added 12. Bay finished 9-14 from the charity stripe and hit seven three pointers.
The win advanced the Lady Rebels to a semi-final match-up with arch rival and number one seeded Buffalo Island Central.
