Violet Dorothy Jones, 83, of Leachville, widow of James C. Jones, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at her residence. Born in Black Oak, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Julia Gray Brooks. She had been a longtime Leachville area resident and had lived many years in Flint, Mich., and New Albany, Miss., before returning to Leachville in 1991.

Survivors include her brother, Larry Brooks of Leachville; four sisters, Cornilia Cupp of Flint, Mich., Geneva Blasingame of Grenada, Miss., Janet Ponder of Flint, Mich., and Margie Brady of Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren, Ramona Atkeison Van Cleave of Leachville, Tina Pritchitt of Flint, Mich., James Jones of Ocala, Fla., and Donnie Jones of Flint, Mich.; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie D. Jones, a daughter, Linda K. Atkeison; two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Davis Lawrence officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery. To sign the online guest register log on to www.howardfuneralservice.com.
