Colts take bite out of Lions 54-51

Manila placed four players in double figures, but still came up on the short end of a 54-51 decision against Rivercrest Tuesday night in 3AAA South Conference action at Manila.
Chase Shelton, Jackey Parker, and Kyle Misner all scored 11 points apiece while Dustin Hobeck added 10 more for the Lions. Hunter Veach scored six while Devin Wright tallied two to round out the Lion attack. Manila finished 8-15 from the foul line and hit seven three pointers, including three by Hobeck.
Rivercrest was lead by Maurice Gordon's game high 16 points. Charles Harris scored 12 while Chris Brown added 10 for the Colts, who improved to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in league play.
Rivercrest jumped to an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 32-22 halftime advantage. The Colts took a 40-33 lead into the final quarter. Manila outscored Rivercrest 18-14 in the fourth period but came up just short.
Harrisburg dealt the Lions a 45-37 defeat Friday night at Harrisburg. Zach Owens led the Hornets with 19 points while Ryan Murphy chipped in 11 more. Chase Shelton paced Manila with 13 points. With the loss, Manila drops to 9-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
In junior high action, Rivercrest downed Manila 47-28 while Harrisburg stopped the Junior Lions 39-32.
Blake Wheeler and Luke McLaughlin paced Manila against Rivercrest with six points each. Michael Shedd scored five, Kyle Evans netted four, Dustin Terry tallied three, while Jacob Perez and Jonathon Rose added two points apiece. Manila sank 4-5 free throws and knocked down four three pointers.
Terrence Gordon had a game high 14 points to lead the Junior Colts who hit 3-7 from the foul stripe and banked home four three pointers on the night.
Manila will return to action Tuesday night when they travel to Caraway to face Riverside in a non-conference match-up. The senior B game will begin at 6:00 followed by the varsity clash.
The Lions will then travel to Marmaduke Friday night to face the Greyhounds in another Senior A-B match-up.
Manila will play host to the 3AAA South Conference Junior High District Tournament beginning Monday, Feb. 6.
