Michelle Daniel scorched the nets for 41 points as the Manila Lady Lions split a pair of 3AAA South Conference match-ups last week in senior girls high school basketball action.
Daniel pumped in 17 points, sending the Lady Lions past Marked Tree 53-39 Tuesday night at Manila. Roccio Bedolla also hit double digits, scoring 14 points.
The two teams battled to a 10-10 tie after the opening period before Manila outscored the Indians 18-4 in the second quarter to open up a 28-14 halftime lead. The Lady Lions carried a 35-22 lead into the final frame.
Rachel Cheadle chipped in nine points while Katie Veach contributed eight more. Kari Ramirez netted three while Amy Browning tacked on two to round out the Manila scoring attack.
Marked Tree was led by Des Upshaw who scored 19 points while Rudy Martin added 10 more.
Michelle Daniel poured in 24 points, including 10 in both the first and fourth quarters, but Trumann escaped with a 69-60 win Thursday night at Manila. Daniel got scoring support from Katie Veach, who hit double digits with 15 points while Rachel Cheadle also scored in double figures, pitching in 13. Kari Ramirez had four points while Roccio Bedolla and Heather Dozhier added two points each.
Alex Guthrie and Jess Byrd scored 24 and 21 points respectively to lead the Lady Cats. Byrd also pulled down nine rebounds. Shandi Clayton scored 14 points and snatched 18 boards to aid the Lady Cats effort.
Manila held a 21-13 lead after the first quarter and went into the dressing room with a 36-33 advantage. Trumann outscored Manila 16-8 in the third quarter to grab a 49-44 lead.
In junior high action, the Lady Lions rolled to a pair of victories defeating Marked Tree 64-35 before finishing off Trumann 43-36.
Manila placed four players in double digits against the Lady Indians, led by Kimberly Wise's 18 points. Savannah Jones scored 12 points while Rebekah White and Colleen Kemp tacked on 11 points apiece. Kristen Painter had five, Jonna Dodd netted three while Kelce Misner and Katie Donner added two points each.
Kimberly Wise scored 12 points to pace Manila past the Lady Wildkittens. Kelce Misner had eight, Jonna Dodd and Colleen Kemp scored six apiece, Savannah Jones contributed four while Rebekah White pitched in three. Megan Presson and Kristen Painter added two points each.
Manila will return to action Monday night when they travel to Gosnell to take on the Lady Pirates. The Lady Lions will close out their conference season as they host Osceola on Thursday night.
