Samuel Leo Hazelwood, 79, of Horseshoe Bend, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem. He was born in the Macey area near Monette. He was a retired staff sergeant with the Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rene Hazelwood; his parents, J.A. and Lilly Bell Hazelwood; three brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Alice Hazelwood of Horseshoe Bend; granddaughters and husbands, Lori and Ken May, Lake City, and Tamera and Chris Sheaffer of Sapulpa, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Natasha Swindle-May and Cassandra May, both of Lake City, Matt Simonton and Chandler, Seth and Ryle Sheaffer, all of Sapulpa; a sister and brother-in-law, Lou and Gordon Rumble of Cherokee Village; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Jan. 16, with full military honors and a military chaplain officiating with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
