Michelle Daniel poured in 34 points on Monday night and came back with 23 more Thursday to lead the Lady Lions to a pair of 3AAA South Conference victories.
Manila got past Osceola 71-57 as Daniel scored 17 of her 34 points in the fourth quarter to preserve the win Monday night at Osceola. The Lions raced to an early 21-10 lead after the first quarter and held a 35-22 halftime advantage. Osceola battled back and pulled within 50-41 after three periods of play.
The Lions outscored Osceola 21-16 in the final period as Daniel scored all but four of the Lady Lions' fourth quarter points.
Katie Veach pitched in 15 points while Rachel Cheadle also hit double digits with 11. Roccio Bedolla had six, Myra Earnest and Heather Dozhier added two each while Kari Ramirez tacked on one.
Osceola was led by Lakesha Lambert who scored 22 points while Indy Haynes added 21.
The Lady Lions overpowered Harrisburg 64-37 Thursday night at Manila as Daniel pumped in 23 points while Veach and Cheadle added 16 and 11 points respectively.
Manila outscored Harrisburg 16-11 in the first quarter and expanded their lead to 35-19 by halftime. The two teams battled on even terms in the third period before the Lady Lions put the game away, outscoring Harrisburg 17-6 in the final period to claim the victory.
Heather Dozhier pitched in five points, Roccio Bedolla tallied four, Kari Ramirez netted three while Amy Browning tacked on two to round out the Lady Lion attack. Manila improved to 9-15 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Harrisburg was led by Unique Sproling with 11 points.
In junior high action, Manila advanced to the finals of the Jack Moore Invitational Tournament at Valley View as they nipped Pocahontas 33-31 Wednesday night at Blazer Gymnasium.
Colleen Kemp led the Lady Lions with 12 points while Kimberly Wise added nine more. Rebekah White tallied five points, Jonna Dodd netted four, Kelce Misner added two while Katie Donner had one point.
Manila trailed 8-7 after one quarter before rallying to take a 17-12 halftime lead. Pocahontas battled back to take a 20-19 lead into the final frame before the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Redskins 14-11 in the fourth quarter to pick up the win. The victory set up a Saturday afternoon championship match-up with Maynard.
The Lady Lions split a pair of conference games last week defeating Harrisburg 43-34 and losing to Osceola 57-47.
Kelce Misner scored 10 points to lead Manila past the Lady Hornets on Thursday night. Colleen Kemp had eight points while Rebekah White, Kimberly Wise and Jonna Dodd all had six points apiece. Kristen Painter tallied five points while Savannah Jones added two.
Kimberly Wise scored a game high 27 points but Manila came up on the short end of a 57-47 loss Monday night at Osceola. The Lady Seminoles used a 18-5 second quarter spurt to hand Manila their second league loss of the season.
Manila (21-4, 5-2 3AAA-South) got six points from Kelce Misner while Jonna Dodd scored four. Kristen Painter had three, Katie Donner, Savannah Jones, and Rebekah White added two points each while Colleen Kemp pitched in one.
Manila returned to action Monday night when they traveled to Rivercrest for a 3AAA South match-up with the Lady Colts. The Lady Lions will then trek to Marianna on Thursday night for another conference game.
