Cody Wells scorched the nets for 30 points to lead Manila to a 64-40 thrashing of Harrisburg Tuesday night at Manila. The 5'10' senior point guard ripped six three pointers, including four in the opening quarter as the Lions raced to an early 18-10 first period lead.
Manila increased their lead to 28-18 by the half and held a 38-27 advantage entering the final quarter. The Lions outscored Harrisburg 26-13 in the final period as Wells, who went a perfect 10-10 from the foul line, sank six of his 10 free throws in the final period. Manila hit 21-31 as a team from the charity stripe.
The Lions also got 10 points from Kyle Misner while seniors Jackey Parker and P.J. Brumley pitched in six points each. Gary Tyler scored four, Ricky Langston had three, Austin Metheny and Devin Wright netted apiece while Hunter Veach added one.
Harrisburg placed two players in double digits, led by Noah Qualls who scored 19 and Zach Owens who added 13. The Hornets hit 3-7 from the foul line and had five three pointers on the night.
Manila played host to Gosnell Friday night and picked up their second 3AAA South win of the week by knocking off the Pirates 64-58. The Lions (8-12, 3-4 3AAA-South) were led by senior Chase Shelton who finished with 17 points.
Manila jumped to a 17-12 first period lead and then outscored Gosnell 22-12 in the second quarter to open up a 39-24 halftime advantage. The Lions carried a 45-33 lead into the fourth quarter and held off a Gosnell rally to pick up the win. Jackey Parker added 12 points for Manila.
Robert Cannon nailed five three pointers and finished with 19 points to lead the Pirates in scoring. Kyle Raspberry had 15 points while Danny Spicer added 11.
In junior high action, Manila opened the week with a 46-26 win over Harrisburg before dropping a 52-38 decision to Gosnell.
Blake Wheeler pumped in 14 points while Kyle Evans and Jacob Perez added nine and eight points respectively to lead the Lions past Harrisburg on Tuesday night. Nathan Bell scored six points, Michael Shedd tallied five, Jared Hembrey pitched in two while Zach Birmingham and Cody Webb added one point each.
Harrisburg was led by Stetson Tate who pumped in a game high 15 points for the Hornets.
The Lions will return to action January 20 when they travel to Osceola to face the Seminoles in a 3AAA South conference match-up.
