Rebels pick up 20th win, lose stunner to Walnut Ridge

Riverside picked up their 20th win of the season as the Rebels rolled over Rector 70-50 in 3AA North Conference action Friday night at Caraway.

Garrett Weaver poured in 21 points to lead the Rebels while Glen Graham scored 11 and Jordan Adcock tacked on 10 more. The Rebels held a slim 14-13 lead after the first period before outscoring Rector 25-10 to open up a 39-23 halftime lead. Riverside entered the final quarter with a 54-40 lead.

Cody Richardson pitched in nine points and grabbed five rebounds while Tyler Timms tallied seven points, dished out six assists, and pulled down five rebounds. Travis Mays had four points, Casey Hook netted three points, Caleb McCluskey and Michael Lawrence scored two points apiece while M.J. Emery tacked on one. The Rebels shot 11-16 from the foul line and hit five treys on the night.

Aaron Morris scored 13 points while Tony Loveless added 12 to lead the Cougars. Jake Holcomb contributed nine points, all on three pointers. Rector finished 5-8 from the free throw line and hit five three pointers on the night.

The Rebels came out flat Tuesday night as they watched Walnut Ridge pull off a 41-38 upset.

Walnut Ridge led the entire game before Garrett Weaver hit a three pointer to put the Rebels up 38-37 late in the game. Walnut Ridge scored the game's last four points to stun the Rebels. The Bobcats led 6-4 after the first quarter and 18-12 at the half. The Bobcats held a slim 27-25 lead after three quarters. Walnut Ridge dominated the backboards, holding a 40-22 rebounding advantage.

Adam Hufstedler led Walnut Ridge with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Chris Logan scored 12 points while Seth Chamblee added eight. The Bobcats got all of their points from the inside and at the free throw line as they attempted only one three pointer on the night. Walnut Ridge hit 3-6 free throws. The Bobcats were 19-46 from the field, 0-1 on three pointers.

Riverside was led by Tyler Timms who scored 12 points, all on three pointers. Glen Graham and Cody Richardson scored seven points apiece, Garrett Weaver had six, Jordan Adcock netted four, while Michael Lawrence added two. Graham finished with seven rebounds while Adcock handed out six assists. The Rebels were 13-40 from the field. Riverside hit 5-5 from the foul line and finished 7-24 from beyond the three point arc.

In junior high action, the Rebels came away with a pair of victories to even their overall mark at 8-8 and push their conference mark to 4-3. Riverside downed Walnut Ridge 50-46 on Tuesday night and came back Friday night to knock off Rector 38-33.

Cody O'Guinn scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Rebels over the Bobcats. Cameron Casey scored nine points and handed out five assists. Shaun Boatman chipped in nine points. Tyler Warhurst had seven points and six assists while Daniel McCormick also tallied seven points. Nick Bagley rounded out the Rebel scoring with three points.

Logan Gaither hit four three pointers and scored 12 points to lead Walnut Ridge. Wesley Davis added 11 points while Jared Blackwell chipped in nine.

Riverside led 8-4 after the first quarter, 22-17 at the half and 33-27 after three periods.

Josh Driver scored nine points to lead the Rebels past Rector. Shaun Boatman had seven, Cody O'Guinn and Cameron Casey scored six points apiece, Tyler Warhurst netted five, Daniel McCormick tallied four while Nick Bagley added one. Riverside hit 11-17 from the foul line and nailed seven three pointers on the night.

Rector was led by Blake McCarroll with 10 points while Dalton Shaw added nine. The Cougars hit a dismal 4-17 from the foul line and finished with one three pointer on the night.

Riverside led 11-8 after the first quarter, 18-11 at the half, and 28-25 after three quarters.
