BIC School Board tables administration building plans
The Buffalo Island Central school board met on Jan. 9 and reviewed student testing, discussed construction of a new administration building, and plans to provide Pre-K school.
Doris Willyerd, District test coordinator and high school counsellor, presented reports concerning student test scores from the 2004-2005 school year.
The board voted to table action on the proposed construction of a new administration building on the west campus, until more information could be obtained.
The need for a Pre-K school in the BIC School district was discussed and Superintendent George Edd Holland was directed to begin investigation grant possibilities and to gather other pertinent data to help with the decision.
Directors voted unanimously to extend Holland's contract by one year, which will run through 2009.
After a brief executive session to consider personnel matters, the board reconvened and took no action.
The decision was made to retire the basketball uniform of Brandon Ballard, Class of 2005, as a special tribute to the ballplayer.
The district renewed their legal liability coverage for another year.
Board members Gordon Miller and Dale Wells informed the board of a meeting held on Jan. 7, 2006 that included members from the BIC, Manila and Riverside school boards, and announced another meeting to be held on Jan. 15, at 2 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Caraway. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss education, adequate facilities, and maximum use of tax payer money, while still maintaining a school in a central location on Buffalo Island.
The next regularly scheduled board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 13 in the library on the East Campus.
