Manila girls' basketball resumed their regular schedule following the holiday break traveling to Trumann on Monday and hosting Gosnell on Thursday. The Lady Lions split falling to Trumann 67-52 and defeating Gosnell 66-29.

In Monday night action, Michelle Daniel led the Lady Lions with 23 points followed by Katie Veach with 10. Others scoring included Kari Ramirez 8, Heather Dozhier 4, Amy Browning 4, Myra Earnest 2, and Rachel Cheadle 1.

Manila was down 15-10 at the end of the first quarter ended the half down by only three 27-24. Trumann increased their lead in the third quarter scoring 23 points to Manila's nine. The Lady Lions played a hard fourth quarter scoring 19 points.

Trumann was led by Jessica Byrd with 14 points, Shandi Clayton with 11 and Alex Guthrie with 10.

Junior High

The Junior Lady Lions came back ready to play after their Christmas break defeating Trumann 47-14. Manila took a 11-5 first quarter lead and increased it to a 30-9 half time lead. They held Trumann to only five last half points.

Kimberly Wise led the junior victory with 14 points (10 in the third quarter), followed by Savannah Jones with 11, Rebekah White 7, Kelce Misner 6, Katie Donner 4, Colleen Kemp 3, Kristen Painter 2.

Manila VS Gosnell

The Lady Lions defeated Gosnell 66-29 on Thursday with three players scoring in double figures. Leading scorer was Rachel Cheadle with 21 points followed by Michelle Daniel with 14 and Kari Ramirez with 10. Ohers scoring were Katie Veach 9 points and 13 rebounds, Heather Dozhier 8, Amy Browning 2 and Myra Earnest 2.

Manila took a 21-5 first quarter lead and increased it to a 36-18 halftime lead with a big 66-29 finish.

Jr. High

Manila Jr. Lady Lions won the early game 46-26. The Lady Lions took an early 10-4 first quarter lead and held the junior Pirates to only one point in the second quarter for a 22-5 half-time lead.

Kimberly Wise led Manila with 16 points followed by Colleen Kemp with 14, Savannah Jones, 4, Jonna Dodd, 4, Kelce Misner, 4, Rebekah white, 3, and Megan Presson 1.

The Junior Lions added two more games to their winning season defeating Marianna at Manila on Friday night and defeating Weiner on Saturday in the Jack Moore Memorial Invitational Tournament at Valley View.

The Junior Lions held Marianna to only 3 points in the first half while scoring 39 before finishing with a 55-12 win.

Kimberly Wise led Manila juniors with 15 points scoring 11 in the first quarter. Others scoring included Savannah Jones with 11, Jonna Dodd 8, Colleen Kemp 7, Rebekah White 6, Kelce Misner 4, and Megan Presson 4.

Saturday the junior Lions went to play defeating Weiner 42-15. Manila led by only one, 6-5, at the end of the first quarter, increasing their lead to 16-7 at the end of the half. A big third quarter with Kimberly Wise scoring 9 of her 16 points put Manila on top 33-11 going into the final quarter.

In addition to Wise's 16 points, Rebekah White and Kristen Painter scored 6 each, Colleen Kemp 5, Megan Presson 4, Kelce Misner 3, and Katie Donner 4.

The Manila Junior Lions will return to the Jack Moore Memorial Invitational Tournament at 5 p.m. Wednesday to face Pocahontas in the semi-finals.
