Junior Lions defeat Trumann in Nettleton Shootout

Manila Junior Lions picked up a victory in the Nettleton Christmas Shootout with a 61-44 win over Trumann. Blake Wheeler and Michael Shedd paced the Lions with 13 and 12 points respectively.

Manila shot an impressive 14-17 from the free throw line and hit five three pointers on the night while placing eight players in the scoring column. Luke McLaughlin scored nine points, Kyle Evans netted eight, Jonathan Rose tallied seven, Jacob Perez scored six, while Frankie Cowgill and Nathan Bell tossed in two points each.

Trumann was led by Terrance Estes who scored a game high 18 points, including three treys. Preston Jones had 12 points and Blake Jones added 11 for the Junior Wildcats.

Manila enjoyed a 15-8 first quarter advantage and led 25-20 at the half. The Lions blew the game open, outscoring Trumann 22-10 in the third quarter, to take a 47-30 lead into the final quarter.

Paragould knocked off the Lions 34-29 behind Justin Robert's 10 points.

Manila was led by a trio of players who scored six points each: Kyle Evans, Jonathan Rose, and Michael Shedd. Luke McLaughlin and Jacob Perez scored four points apiece while Blake Wheeler chipped in three.

The game was tied 11-11 after the first period before Manila took a 17-16 edge at the half. Paragould rallied to tie the score 20-20 entering the final quarter. The Rams outscored Manila 14-9 in the fourth period to pull out the victory.

In the battle for fifth place, Valley View slipped past the Junior Lions 39-32 as Seth Freeman scored 14 points to lead the Blazers.

Manila was led by Blake Wheeler who scored eight points. Kyle Evans, Luke McLaughlin and Jonathan Rose netted five points each. Jacob Perez tallied four points, Michael Shedd tossed in three while Nathan Bell added two to round out the Lion attack.

Valley View led 13-12 after the first period before the Lions rallied for a 24-21 halftime advantage. The Blazers outscored Manila 10-2 in the third quarter to take a 31-26 lead into the final frame.
