Manila Senior Lions fall to Viola

The Manila senior boys and girls basketball teams traveled to Viola on Tuesday before starting their Thanksgiving break. The Lady Lions were defeated 54-32.

Rachel Cheadle was the only Manila player in double figures with 11. Other Lady Lions scoring included Michelle Daniel 9, Kari Ramirez 6, and two each by Katie Veach, Roccio Bedolla and Myra Earnest.

Manila led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter with Viola taking a big second quarter lead ending at half 32-18.

Manila junior and senior girls will play in the Gerald Jennings Holiday Tournament this week at Marked Tree. The junior girls are seeded first and will play their first game at 6 p.m. Wednesday. They will play the winenrs of the Tuesday evening BIC/Armorel game. Senior girls will play Paragould at 5:15 Tuesday.

The senior Lions came out strong ending the first quarter with a 24-9. Viola narrowed Manila's lead outscoring the Lions 21 to 10 in the second quarter ending the first half 53-48 but couldn't hold on for a win falling 62-58 to Viola.

Cody Wells led Manila with 23 points followed by Jackey Parker12. Other Lions scoring included Chase Shelton 8, Ricky Langston 6, P.J. Brumley 5, and Kyle Misner 4. Langston also recorded eight rebounds. Brumley has seven assists.
