Despite Rachel Cheadle's game high 27 points, the Lady Lions dropped to 1-7 on the year as Westside downed Manila 57-47 in senior girls basketball Thursday night at Manila.
Westside jumped to a 23-8 first quarter lead and held an 11 point advantage at the half, 31-20. The Lady Warriors pulled away in the third quarter to take a 45-27 lead entering the final frame.
Cheadle, the only Lady Lion in double figures, had 18 of her points in the second half. Michelle Daniel scored eight, Katie Veach netted six, Roccio Bedolla added four while Kari Ramirez had two to round out the Lady Lion attack.
Kayla Whittingham and Dani McCloud scored 10 points each to lead the Lady Warriors, who remained unbeaten on the season at 2-0
In junior high action, Manila claimed a 46-34 victory as Kimberly Wise poured in 20 points, including 14 in the final quarter. Colleen Kemp also hit double figures with 10 points. Kelce Misner scored six, Rebekah White and Kristen Painter added three points each while Katie Donner and Megan Presson chipped in two points apiece.
Manila will return to action Monday night when they travel to Brookland to play the Lady Bearcats. The Lady Lions will also travel to Marked Tree Thursday night to play the Lady Indians.
