Fines LaVaughn Roe - Leachville

Fines LaVaughn Roe, 87, of Leachville died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2005, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Ada, Okla., he was the son of the late Tom H. and Nettie Simpson Roe and had been a Leachville resident since 1948. Mr. Roe was a disabled Army veteran of World War II having served as platoon sergeant in the New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns of the Western Pacific Theatre. Having been wounded three times, he received the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters, three Bronze Stars and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon among his many citations. He was a life member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Houchin Roe, of the home; a half-brother, Charles Roe; three half-sisters, Betty Henry, Ruby Goings, and Etha Spurlock.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Rudy Davis officiating. Burial was in the Leachville Cemetery.
