The Riverside Lady Rebels split a pair of high school softball games last week, losing to Brookland 10-0 on Monday afternoon at Caraway before coming back with an 11-8 victory over Walnut Ridge on the road Tuesday afternoon.
Brookland pitcher Ashley Griffith proved too much for the Lady Rebels as she went the distance, surrendering only one hit while striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced. Griffith also was the star at the plate, as she finished 3-3 with a double. Katie Morris blasted a home run as Brookland improved to 9-2 on the year while Riverside fell to 4-4.
Riverside bounced back the next day as the Lady Rebels out-slugged the Lady Bobcats to improve to 5-4 on the year. Jesse Mann went 3-4 while Amber Murphy drove in three runs to lead the Lady Rebels offensively. Sam Dunigan went the distance to pick up the victory on the mound while Nat Williams took the loss for Walnut Ridge.
Riverside will return to action as they host Cross County at 4:00 Monday afternoon at Lake City. Riverside will then go on the road to take on Rector on Tuesday. After a day off, the Lady Rebels will close out the week hosting Maynard on Thursday afternoon at Caraway before traveling to Cherry Valley to face Cross County again on Friday afternoon.
