Thursday, April 14, 2005

Glen Graham laced an RBI single to cap off a three run second inning, giving Riverside a 3-2 lead they would never relinquish as the Rebels went on to a 10-5 victory over Cross County Monday at Lake City in 3AA South Conference action.

Tyler Timms began the second with a base hit, followed by another hit by third baseman Anthony Reece, putting runners at first and second with no outs. After a stolen base by Timms put runners at first and third, left-fielder Cody Richardson lashed an RBI double into the left centerfield gap, scoring Timms, making the score 2-1 Cross County. Reece then scampered home on a wild pitch to knot the score at 2-2 before Graham(s go ahead hit gave the Rebels the lead for good.

Riverside tacked on two more runs in the third as Garrett Weaver led off the inning with a base hit to left field and advanced to third on a pick off attempt that got away from the Thunderbird first baseman, sending Weaver all the way to third base. Jeremy Mann reached base when he was hit by a pitch, putting runners at the corners, before Timms reached base on an error which scored Weaver, giving the Rebels a 4-2 lead. Kevin Winford's sacrifice fly put the Rebels up 5-2 after three innings.

Cross County rallied for two runs in the fourth to make the score 5-4 before Riverside scored four of their own in the bottom half of the fourth to grab a 9-4 lead. The big hit came off the bat of Winford, who slashed a two run single down the third base line, scoring Timms and Reece, who had reached on a base hit and a walk. The two teams traded runs to make the final score 10-5, improving the Rebels record to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Jeremy Mann picked up the win, striking out seven while walking three and giving up only two earned runs. Mann scattered nine hits. Winford finished with three RBIs while Richardson knocked in two more to lead the Rebels attack.
