Manila's Lady Lions split last week conference games losing to Trumann on Monday and defeating Gosnell on Thursday. The Lady Lions pulled out a 59-54 win over the Lady Pirates in Gosnell with sophomore Rachel Cheadle pumping in 25 points. Deborah White and Katie Veach added 14 points each
in the win for Manila. Amanda Henson, Whitney Shepard, and Rocio Bedolla added two points each. Clarrissa Cannon led Gosnell with 23 points followed by Stacie Anderson with 14.
Gosnell led 13-11 after the first quarter but a 15-6 second quarter gave Manila a 26-19 halftime advantage. The Lady Pirates outscored Manila 21-15 in the third to pull within one 40-41 before the Lady Lions held on for the 59-54 win. The win improved Manila's conference record to 2-2 and
overall record to 11-10.
The junior Lions picked up an easy 52-26 win over Gosnell 52-26. Michelle Daniel led MJHS with 24 points followed by Kimberly Wise with 14. Also scoring were Rebekah White six; Michelle Pasley four; Colleen Kemp and Myra Earnest two points each.
Manila fell to Trumann on Monday 44-41. The Lady Lions led 10-8 after one but a 17-6 second quarter by the Lady Wildcats put Trumann up 25-16 at the half. Trumann continued to lead 35-26 in the third but the Lady Lions could not pull any closer than the final score 44-41.
Rachel Cheadle led MHS with 12 followed by 10 from Amanda Henson. Others scoring were Whitney Shepard seven; Rocio Bedolla six; Deborah White four; and Katie Veach two. Trumann was led by Jessica Byrd with 12 and Caitlyn Brune with 11.
The junior Lady Lions picked up the win over the junior Lady Wildcats 41-29. Kimberly Wise led Manila with 16 points followed by Michelle Daniel with 11. Others scoring were: Rebekah White six; Heather Dozier and Colleen Kemp with four each. Megan McDaniel led Trumann with seven.
