Manila fell to eventual 3A, 4A, and 5A champs Blytheville in the second round of the NEA Tournament on Tuesday. The Lions trailed 17-3 after one and 35-22 at the half. Manila wouldn't lie down in the second half pulling as close as nine after trailing by 18 at one point. Blytheville's size and athleticism proved too much as the Chicks defeated Manila 67-54.
Senior Jordan Wise led all scorers with 27 points followed by Cody Wells with 14. Also scoring for MHS were Chase Shelton five; Matt Noble four; and Derrick Wright four.
Blytheville was led by John Fowler with 24 followed by Travis Perdue and Chris Echols with 11 points each.
Manila advanced in the tournament by defeating Valley View 62-61 after trailing 14-4 in the first quarter. The Lions ended first half action going on a 10-0 run to pull within two at the half. Manila made the run after three steals each from Matt Noble and Jordan Wise. The run pulled
Manila within two 28-26 at the half. The Lions took the lead with 4:43 left in the third taking a 43-40 advantage after three before getting the win in the fourth.
Cody Wells led Manila with 21 points followed by 14 from Chase Shelton and Jordan Wise. Others scoring in the win were Matt Noble eight; Jackey Parker three; and Randy Murray two.
