Lady Mustangs pick up first loss in holiday tourney

The Lady Mustangs of BIC saw their undefeated season come to an end as the Lady Warriors of EPC upset the number one seed in the Gerald Jennings Holiday Tournament 53-47. Turnovers late in the fourth quarter turned out to be costly for BIC.

BIC led 17-12 after one behind Jessica Shepard's nine point performance. EPC came back to outscore the Lady Mustangs 16-9 in the second going six for nine from the charity stripe to take a 28-26 advantage at the half. The Lady Warriors continued to be productive from the line in the third hitting five of six to hold on to a 39-34 lead after three. BIC took a brief one point lead in the fourth but costly turnovers hurt the Lady Mustangs chance of advancing.

BIC was led by sophomore Jessica Shepard with 26 points. Also scoring for the Lady Mustangs were: Kasey Garrett eight; Ashley Tate seven; and NanLee Bridges six.

EPC was led by Sade Madden with 23 points followed by Lauren Hale with 23. Scoring in the win for the Lady Warriors were: Alisha Gilmer seven; Samantha King four; Lauren Turner three; and Jessica Ross two.

BIC advanced to semifinal action with a 42-26 win over CRA on Tuesday. BIC led 14 - 6 after one and 20-12 at the half. Using a 15-7 third quarter the Lady Mustangs pushed their advantage to 35-19 after three beforecruising on for the win.

BIC was led by Jae Ashabranner with 12 points. Others scoring were: Jessica Shepard nine; Kasey Garrett seven; NanLee Bridges six; Stephanie Baldridge three; Ashley Tate three; Kelly Wright two.

BIC's junior Lady Mustangs fell to the Lady Rebels of Riverside 54-26 on Tuesday to end a repeat of tournament champs. Riverside held a 9-7 lead after one and 17-12 at the half. The Lady Rebels used a 21-6 third quarter to open up the game and hold a 38-18 lead after three before

taking the win.

Scoring for the junior Lady Mustangs were: Breanna Cole seven; Chelsie Nix five; Lauryn Smith five; Jordon Miller four; Corie Flannigan two; Nicole Poe two; and Haley Smith one.

Riverside was led by Morgan Emery with 12 points followed by Brianna Driver with 11. Others scoring in the win were: Katey Campbell nine; Kasey Davis eight; Kassie Douglas four; and Kelsey Turner, Anne Marie Johnson, H. Dudley, T. Alsup, and D. Pollard with two points each.

BIC advanced to the second round of tournament action with a 32-22 win over Gosnell. The Lady Pirates led 9-7 after one but the junior Lady Mustangs outscored Gosnell 15-3 before the half to take a 22-12 lead into to the locker room. BIC pushed their lead to 30-16 after three before

advancing in the fourth.

BIC was led by Lauryn Smith's seventeen points followed by Breanna Cole with eight. Jordon Miller added five and Chelsie Nix one for the junior Lady Mustangs.
