The Manila Junior Lions took second place in Thanksgiving weekend's GCT Classic going 2-1 in the tourney. Manila fell to Greene County Tech in first round action 79-55. The Lions held a brief lead after the first 12-10 before the junior Eagles outscored the junior Lions 26-14 for a 35-26 advantage at the half. Greene County Tech continued to dominate the Lions in the second half to get the win.
Manila's Ross Malloy led all scorers with 22 points followed by Rickey Langston with 12. Others scoring for MJHS: Tony Benham - seven; Chad Nunnally - four; Trey McCormick - three; Blain Brewington - two; Nathan Bell - two; Michael Shedd - two; and Luke McLaughlin - one. GCT was led
by Tyler Garnett 15; Kevin Hawes 15; Chris Johnson 14; C. Harling 14; and Tyler Davis 10.
Manila defeated Parkin in Saturday morning's game 56-47. MJHS jumped out to a big 18-4 lead, but a 19-11 second quarter by the Tigers pulled Parkin within six, 29-23. Manila continued to lead 44-36 after three before getting the win.
Ross Malloy led MJHS with 19 followed by Rickey Langston with 17 and Chad Nunnally with 11. Others scoring in the win were Tony Benham - six; Trey McCormick - two; and Jace Elkins - one.
The Lions defeated Armorel in their final game of the Classic 50-32. Manila led 12-4 after one and pushed the lead to 31-15 at the half. Leading 43-19 after three Manila took the game with the bench seeing playtime.
