Lady Lions gain win over Westside

The Lady Lions picked up a big win over Westside Thursday night by defeating the Lady Warriors 48 -34. "It is the first time we have defeated Westside at the beginning of the season since I came to Manila," Coach Codie Malloy said of the win.

Manila held a slim 6-5 lead after one before falling behind 17-11 at the half. Manila exploded in the second half to outscore Westside 17-10 in the third and 19-6 in the fourth to get the win.

Rachel Cheadle and Katie Veach continued to lead Manila with 17 and 11 points respectively. Deborah White added 10 points in the win. Others scoring in the win were: Amanda Henson - four; Whitney Shepard - four; and Annette Hiser - two.

The junior Lady Lions also picked up a win this week by defeating Westside 35-31. Trailing 6-3 after one Manila came out hot in the second to take a 20 lead at the half. The junior Lady Lions held on to a 26-18 lead after three and held on for the win after a run by the junior Lady Warriors.

Michelle Daniel led MJHS with 14 points followed by Kimberly Wise with eight and Rebekah White with seven. Others scoring were: Colleen Kemp - four; and Myra Earnest - two.

The Lady Lions hosts Brookland and Marked Tree this week. The senior girls will also be in action against Viola next Tuesday. Manila will host the girls Gerald Jennings Tournament the week after Thanksgiving.
