Gathright also received honorable certificates from Omer Rogers, manager of the Mid-American District, and Wilbur Thornton, acting manager of Post Office Operations for the Cardwell area.

Master of ceremonies was Darla Harrell, Gathright's sister, and fellow Postmaster of Black Oak.

The Pledge of Allegiance was observed as the ceremony was conducted under the flag pole directly outside of the Cardwell Post Office.
