Rebel netters take three for the week

The Riverside boys tennis team swept two matches this past week, while the Lady Rebels won one match and split another.
The Rebels traveled to Walnut Ridge Tuesday afternoon with the boys coming away with a 5-2 victory. Riverside and Walnut Ridge split the singles matches with Jack Kent winning both points for the Bobcats. Kent, the number one singles play in the conference, defeated Tyler Timms, 6-1, before downing Blake Barnes, 6-2.
The Rebels bounced back when Barnes defeated Justin Baker, 6-0, while Riverside(s Zac Reynolds handed Walnut Ridge(s Ryan Belcher a 6-2 defeat.
In doubles action, it was all Riverside as the Rebels swept all three matches. Timms and Barnes claimed a 6-1 victory at number one doubles over Belcher and Baker. Reynolds and Shane Mathews downed the Bobcat team of Tom Jackson and Eric Duncan, 6-2. The Rebel duo of M. J. Emery and Cody Richardson rolled over the Bobcat team of Matt Moore and Justin Walter, 6-1.
In girls action, Riverside(s Miranda Boyd got the ladies off to a quick start at number one singles by handing Lady Bobcat Sarah Emison a 6-0 whitewash. Boyd also defeated Caitlin Cavenaugh, 6-2. Lady Bobcat Hannah Mosley salvaged the only singles victory for Walnut Ridge by defeating Kristen Sneed, 6-2.
In the deciding match of the day, the Lady Bobcat team of Laura Freeman and Jordan Rorex went into overtime to edge Boyd and Sneed, 7-5, to earn a split in the girls matches.
Riverside then came home to face the Weiner Cardinals on Thursday with the boys taking a 5-1 victory while the Lady Rebels defeated Weiner 1-0.
In boys singles play, Tyler Timms outlasted Weiner(s Kyle Lawrence 7-5, while Blake Barnes defeated Weiner(s Daniel Chatman, 6-0. In doubles action, the number one Rebel team of Timms and Barnes defeated Lawrence and Bo Hicks, 6-2. Riverside also got victories from the teams of M. J. Emery and Cody Richardson as well as Cody Weathers and Shawn Mathews. Emery and Richardson downed Weiner(s Chatman and Wesley Dunham 6-1, while Weathers and Mathews beat the Cardinal team of Alex Brooks and Ross Phillips, 6-1. The only victory of the day for the Weiner boys came when the team of Aaron Riley and Jordan Beard edged Riverside(s Zac Reynolds and Shawn Mathews, 7-6.
In the only girls match of the day, Miranda Boyd downed Teryin Wixson, 6-1 in singles play.
The Riverside boys improved to 6-4-3 on the year, while the girls record is 3-5-4.
Riverside will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Jonesboro(s Allen Park for district tournament play.
