A one vehicle accident early Friday morning claimed the life of a Monette man and injured a Monette resident.
According to Trooper Tony Crowell with the Arkansas State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 3:05 a.m. on West County Road 314 near the intersection of North County Road 103.
James Eugene Tharp, 24, of Lake City was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner David Tucker.
A passenger, Clarence Platz, 22,of Monette was airlifted to the Med in Memphis. A spokesperson of the Med reported his condition on Monday morning as serious.
Crowell said the driver apparently lost control, ran off the north side of County Road 103, traveled 600 feet overturning approximately eight times coming to rest on the passenger side on the south side of County Road 103. Both men were ejected from the vehicle.
When the fire department arrived, the car was fully engulfed in flames.
Crowell said he was assisted by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department, Manila Police Department, Leachville Police Department, Manila Fire Department and the Emergency Squad.
