A Manila resident, David Stone, 49, was the victim of a fatal shooting while visiting a friend in Fulton County.

According to a report from Lloyd Martz, Fulton County sheriff, the Sharp County 9-11 center received a call of a shooting incident at approximately 10:33 p.m. Wednesday. The caller reported that the victim had been shot at a residence on Whippoorwill Road, just south of the Wheeling Community in rural Fulton County. EMS responded and transported Stone to the Salem Airport where he was transferred to an air ambulance and taken to St. John's Medical Center in Springfield, Mo.

Stone died at 5:10 a.m. Thursday morning as a result of his injuries. Arkansas State Police Special Agents processed the crime scene and began conducting interviews of witnesses and potential suspects.

Investigators from the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control are also assisting with the investigation.

The Greene County Missouri Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the victim, which was attended by a Special Agent form the Arkansas State Police, and evidence recovered as a result of the autopsy was transferred to the agent and transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis.

"The investigation to this point indicates that the victim was shot from outside of the residence as he stood in front of a window," Sheriff Martz said. "Agents have conducted several interviews and executed two search warrants regarding the investigation. One person was arrested on an unrelated theft charge when agents recovered a stolen gun while following leads related to the case."

The investigation is continuing, Sheriff Martz said.
