Herbert R. Smith, 72, of Byron, Mich., formerly of Fenton, Mich., died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Black Oak, he was retired from General Motors, where he worked as a press operator until 1981. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Otisville, the Elf Khurafeh Shrine and United Auto Workers.
Survivors include a son, Barton Smith, of Byron; four sisters, Bessie Leona Nall and Mabel Beatrice Adams, both of Lake City, Margie Lucille Skinner, of Flint, Mich., and Lillian Corene Robbins, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Huston Smith, of Paragould; and two grandsons, Zachary Smith and Spencer Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Mollie Bost Smith.
A memorial service was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Log Cemetery. Burial was under the direction of Streeter Funeral Home of Byron.
The body has been cremated.
