Abby Wise, Leigha Woody, and Shelby Wise of FOCUS Fast Pitch recently participated in the UFSA World Series in Panama City Beach, Fla.

After concluding a successful season with FOCUS, Abby, Shelby, and Leigha spent a week in Panama City Beach, Fla., participating in the 50 team 12 & Under USFA World Series.

Each team is allowed three pick-up players not on the regular season roster. The Collierville Lady Dragons is a competitive organization from Tennessee that fields teams in the 12 & Under to 18 & Under divisions. The dragons had faced FOCUS during tournaments earlier this season and expressed an interest in picking up a pitcher, catcher, and utility player for the World Series.

Although the young Collierville team exited the tournament early, the FOCUS players faired well. Shelby and Leigha combined as pitcher and catcher in the second game for a no hitter shutting out the Pressure from Georgia. Shelby struck out 7, walked 0, and Leigha threw out a runner who made it to first on an error when she attempted to steal second.

Shelby and Leigha worked together as pitcher and catcher in two other games giving up three hits and allowing no walks while striking out eight batters. Shelby served as lead off batter and led the team with a 500 average on the week. She also played first base and center field for the Dragons while Leigha continued to serve as catcher for the other Collierville pitchers.

Abby played left field and led the offense against The Players out of Jacksonville, Fla., by going 2 for 2 at the plate in that game.

The girls faced teams from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas and found time to enjoy the beach as well.
