Manila school board meets in two special sessions
The Manila School Board interviewed superintendent candidates and held expulsion hearings at two special called meetings last week.
The board met on Tuesday night for an interview with superintendent candidate Barry Scott of Piggott with all board members present. Board members are Johnny McCain, president, Jackie Hill, Scott Misner, Donald Master, Robert Veach, William Davis and Steve Metheny.
All board members were present for the Thursday night meeting.
Following two executive sessions, the board voted to expel two eighth grade students for the remainder of the school year for unacceptable disruptive behavior. Both votes passed 6-1 with Board member Jackie Hill abstaining..
A motion by Steven Metheny to amend the agenda for PPC Salary Recommendation passed 7-0. Interim Superintendent Pam castor recommended a $1,000 raise to be added to the base pay of certified personnel for the 2003-04 school year. The motion passed 7-0.
Superintendent candidates Don Smith and Pam Castor were interviewed.
A special session has been set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday with two items on the agenda. Pam Chipman, high school principal, will address the board on Smartcore and interviews with superintendent candidates.
