Manila Lions fall twice in week

Manila fell twice this week in 3AAA-South Conference action.

The Lions fell to Rivercrest on Thursday 10-5. The Colts jumped out 5-0 on Manila in the first two innings before the Lions pulled within three in the third. Rivercrest picked up three more runs in the fourth for a 8-2 lead before MHS picked up two three runs in the sixth.

Rivercrest sealed the win in the seventh scoring one for the final 10-5. Jared Camp took the loss for Manila on the mound, pitching four and two-thirds innings. Camp gave up eight hits and struck out five. Josh McDaniel came in to pitch two and a third innings, giving up two hits and striking out four.

Kevin Curtis led Manila, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Jordan Wise and Casey Hill hit 2-for-4, followed by Juan Moyeda, who hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Cody Wells and Josh McDaniel each picked up an RBI in the loss.

Manila fell to conference leaders Gosnell on Tuesday 15-3. The Lions tied the game at three-all in the third but it would be all Pirates in the bottom of the inning as Gosnell scored 12 runs. Matt Noble suffered the loss, pitching three innings, giving up nine hits and striking out one. Justin Hill pitched three innings in relief and gave up two hits and struck out one.

Juan Moyeda led MHS, hitting 2-for-3 including a home run and two RBIs. Matt Noble and Josh McDaniel hit 1-for-3 while Cody Wells picked up an RBI.

Manila will face Trumann in doubleheader action on Monday and travel to Rivercrest on Thursday.
