Manila ended the week on a good note by defeating conference foes EPC Lady Warriors 11--3 and 15--1 in a doubleheader held at Manila.
The Lady Lions improved to 3--7 overall and 2--3 in 3AAA-South conference play. Sophomore Brittany Clark got the win on the mound in the first match up. Clark pitched five innings, striking out three and giving up six hits.
Manila jumped out to a 4--2 lead in the first and never looked back. Amanda Henson picked up the Lady Lions' only hit in the first on a single. Manila scored all four runs on wild pitches and fielding errors by the Lady Warriors. EPC scored two runs in the first on walks and errors by the Lady Lions.
Natalie Tippy picked up a triple in the second followed by a single by Katie Veach that scored Tippy. A double by Audrey Booth scored Veach with a home run by Amanda Henson scoring Booth and herself to give Manila an 8--2 lead.
The Lady Lions picked up two more runs in the third. Bethany Daley led off the inning with a walk followed by Jennifer Duffel reaching first on an error that scored Daley. Tippy's long ball to left field would score Duffel and allowed Tippy to reach first on an error.
Henson hit a triple to begin the fourth followed by a single by Daley that scored Henson for the final score 11--3.
Hitting for the Lady Lions were Natalie Tippy going 1-for-2 with an RBI; Katie Veach hitting 1-for-2 with an RBI; Audrey Booth went 1-for-3 with an RBI; Amanda Henson 3-for-3 including a home run and two RBIs; Brittany Clark 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Jennifer Duffel picked up an RBI.
Senior Natalie Tippy led MHS in the second win of the night 15--1. Tippy pitched four innings allowing one hit and fanning five. Manila scored seven runs in the first on six hits. Brittany Clark picked up three RBIs on a double followed by Bethany Daley picking up an RBI on a sacrifice play at first. The Lady Lions took advantage of EPC errors to score two more runs for a 7--0 lead after one.
Manila picked up one run in the second on Amanda Henson's solo homer, her second on the night. Henson was credited with Manila's two runs in the third on a single hit scoring Tippy and Kayla Hobeck. The Lady Lions clinched the win in the fourth by picking up five runs. EPC's only run came in the second inning.
