Manila gets win over Armorel

The Lady Lions defeated Armorel on Tuesday, 16-3, in the Lady Tigers' first season of softball. Manila was led behind senior Natalie Tippy's pitching -- she struck out five and allowed no hits.

After a 1-1 tie following the first inning, the Lady Lions found their stride and scored five each in the last three innings to get the win. Tippy also led Manila in hitting with a double, triple, home run, and two RBI's. Amanda Henson was hot at the plate, also picking up two singles, a double, and an RBI, followed by Audrey Booth with a single, double, and an RBI. Freshmen Rachel Cheadle and Katie Veach picked up two singles each, with classmate Annette Hiser getting a double with two RBIs. Jennifer Duffel rounded out the hitting for Manila with a single.

Manila traveled to Riverside on Thursday for a doubleheader with the Lady Rebels. The Lady Rebels won the first contest 9-8 in extra innings. In first game action Natalie Tippy pitched for six innings picking up 10 strike outs and giving up no hits. Samantha Dunigan got the win for Riverside with two strikeouts and giving up seven hits.

Hitting for the Lady Lions were Natalie Tippy, two singles and an RBI; Audrey Booth, single and two RBI's; Amanda Henson, home run and single with two RBIs; Brittany Clark, single; Bethany Daley, single, and Annette Hiser, single.

The Lady Rebels' only hit came from Miranda Stephens, who singled in the fourth with two RBIs.

In the second game of the night, Riverside pulled away for a 25-7 win. Miranda Stephens picked up the pitching win while Manila's Brittany Clark took the loss. Riverside was led at the plate by Poskey, four singles; Stephens, two singles, triple; Mann, two triples, single; Sam Dunigan, two triples, two doubles; Shasteen, double, two singles, RBI; Amanda Dunigan, single, double; Schoolfield, three singles; Boyd, two singles.

Manila was led by Natalie Tippy with a triple and two singles; Katie Veach, two singles; Audrey Booth, two singles; Brittany Clark a double and two singles; Bethany Daley, single; Annette Hiser, single; Jennifer Duffel, two singles; and Kayla Hobeck with a single.

Manila will return to action on Monday, March 22, at Valley View. They will travel to Gosnell on Tuesday, March 23.
