After opening up the season with a loss to the AAA Rivercrest Lady Colts, the Lady Rebel softballers bounced back to take three straight games to get off to a quick 3-1 start under first year coach T.J. Eakins.
On Thursday night, Riverside hosted Manila in a twinbill and came away with the sweep, winning the first game 9-8 and then taking the nightcap 24-8.
Sophomore Sam Dunigan pitched a complete game in the opener to get the victory and then came on in relief in the second game and picked up her second win of the night. Dunigan also came up big at the plate, lashing four hits and driving in seven runs in the first game, then came back in the second game to add a two-run single to cap off an impressive performance both at the plate and on the mound. Miranda Stephens drove in two runs for Riverside.
Amanda Henson went 3-3 with an RBI and Audrey Booth was 2-4 with two RBI's for the Lady Lions.
In the nightcap, Riverside's Jesse Mann went 3-4 and knocked in six runs while Megan Poskey went a perfect 4-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Rebels offensively, improving their record to 2-1 on the young season.
Natalie Tippy and Jennifer Duffle each went 2-3 to lead Manila.
Riverside vs. Armorel
The Lady Rebels won their third straight game of the week to improve to 3-1 on the year as Sam Dunigan fired a two-hit shutout in leading Riverside to a 6-0 whitewash of the Armorel Lady Tigers Friday afternoon at Caraway.
Miranda Stephens led the Lady Rebels at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI, while Jesse Mann added three more hits as the Lady Rebels continued their winning ways.
Riverside will take the week off for spring break and will resume action the following week.
