Janette McDowell Whitehead, 77, of Manila died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville. Born at Clear Lake, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Brad and Eula Adams McDowell and had lived in California for 38 years before returning to Manila in 1989. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church of Manila.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepmother, Emily Lillian McDowell.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Leonard Whitehead of Manila; a daughter, Mona Linda Hessler of Manila; a brother, R.L. McDowell of Manila; two half-brothers, Bobby McDowell of Black Rock and Kenneth McDowell of O'Kean; five half-sisters, Joann Guiterrez and Betty Sue McDowell, both of Houston, Texas, Bonnie Warrnick and Ada Meeks, both of Black Rock, and Brenda Haney of Paragould.
Services were 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Manila with Rev. Ferrel Duffel and Rev. Ray Dill officiating. Burial was in Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.
