Monette Drug expansion officially recognized with ribbon cutting

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

Monette Discount Drug held an open house on Friday, February 27, to welcome customers and guests to the new business location.

The Monette City Beautification Committee held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to acknowledge the new business location, and their appreciation for the continuance of the drug store's business location in Monette.

On hand for the ceremony were owners Ken and Beverly Lomax, and drug store employee Kathy Fraser. Iva Harrison also works at Monette Discount Drug.

The Lomax's have had a drug store in Monette since 1974. Ken and his son, Kyle, serve as pharmacists for Monette Discount Drug. Beverly manages the Lomax's branch business, Plaza Pharmacy, at 3001 Apache Dr., in Jonesboro.

The newly renovated pharmacy has added a drive through window and ten new parking spaces, lighting, and custom landscaping, on the west side of the building. The Monette pharmacy provides free delivery service for customers between Monette and Black Oak city limits. They carry a large supply of Medicare and diabetic supplies, and have added new insurance plan coverage to accommodate the needs of their customers.

Monette Mayor, David Fletcher, and Monette City Beautification Committee Chairman, Ernestine Harrell, led the special ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the store at 10 a.m. Other committee leaders included Jerry Reed, Margarete Reed, Barbara Suber, and Vickki Carroll.

Refreshments, gifts and door prizes were given away from 1-5 p.m. with Troy Wadell winning a $50 gift certificate and Royal Tilley winning the television.
