Two vehicle accident claims life of Leachville woman

A two vehicle accident claimed the life of a Leachville woman and injured two.

According to an Arkansas State Police report, the accident happened Thursday at approximately 11:50 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 18 and 119 near Leachville.

Julie Johnson of Manila was traveling east on State Highway 18 and a Dodge Caravan, driven by Larry Robins, was southbound on Highway 119 and drove into the path of Johnson's pickup. The Caravan was struck in the right side and passenger Gerry Melvin was ejected from the vehicle.

Melvin, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene by Mississippi County Coroner Steve Keating.

Robins was air lifted to the Med in Memphis and Johnson was transported to Baptist Hospital in Blytheville. Both were treated for injuries and released.
