Manila came up short in first round action of the Gerald Jennings Holiday tournament falling to Riverside 61-58. The Rebels went on a 10-2 run in the first to lead the Lions 21-13. Exchanging baskets in the second Riverside continued to lead 39-290 at the half. Manila roared back in the second half to fall in the final frame.
Manila's Coach Anthony Brewington felt it was a good game. "We were down 15 at one point and could have quit but we never gave up," he said. "We didn't shoot well but it was our best defensive outing yet."
Matt Noble led all scorers putting 24 for the Lions. Justin Hill followed with 19. Other scoring for MHS were Cody Wells five; Derrick Wright four; Jordan Wise three and Chase Shelton three.
Matt Owens led Riverside with 20 points, followed by Zac Reynolds with 11 and Zach Ridge with 10. Others scoring for Riverside were Michael Dewitt nine; Alex Smith eight; and Tyler Timms three.
The Junior Lions advanced in first round action defeating Marked Tree 47-40. Manila led 15-^ after one and 25-17 at the half. Manila pushed the lead to 36-21 after three before taking the win.
Dustin Hobeck led MJHS with 18 points. Others scoring were Adam Bloom nine; Zac Williams seven; Hunter Veach five; Sky Morris four; Gary Tyler three and Austin Metheny one.
The Lions fell to Riverside in semi-final action 54-30. The Junior Rebels jumped out to a 22-11 first quarter lead before taking a commanding 32-19 lead at the half. Riverside pushed the lead to 46-25 after three before advancing.
Dustin Hobeck led MJHS with 13. Others scoring were Sky Morris four; Gary Tyler four; Adam Bloom three; Zac Williams three; Hunter Veach two; and Austin Metheny one.
Riverside's Brandon Davis led all scorers with 15 points followed by 10 from Glen Graham. Jordan Adcock and Caleb McCluskey added nine points each. Others scorers include Garrett Weaver three; Mike Lawrence two and Bradley Tucker two.
