BIC's junior Lady Mustangs came from behind to defeat the Paragould junior Lady Rams 47-34 to win the Gerald Jennings Holiday Tournament. BIC fell behind 11-9 after one and 25-16 at the half. BIC took advantage of turnovers and took care of the ball to take a 29-29 lead after three and outscored Paragould 18-7 in the fourth to gain the win. "It took awhile for us to get over the jitters but we finished in the second half as well as any coach could ask their team to do," BIC's Coach Mike Kinard said. "We talk a lot in practice and in the locker room about the word "finish" and it paid off tonight," Kinard went on to say.
BIC was led by Jessica Shepard with 16 followed by Jera Ashabranner with 12 and Ashley Tate with 10. Others scoring in the win were Kasey Garrett with six; Lauryn Smith two; and Breanna Cole one.
"I have to say hats off to Paragould," Kinard stated. "They played a hard game and are well coached."
BIC defeated EPC in semi-final action after trailing 14-8 in the first and 23-18 at the half. The Junior Lady Mustangs took a 32-29 lead in the third before advancing with a 44-35 win. Jessica Shepard led all scores with 29 points. Others scoring for BIC were Ashley Tate four; Stephanie Baldridge three; Kasey Garrett two; Lauryn Smith two; Jera Ashabranner two; and Katie Olive two.
EPC was led by Sadie Madden with 18 and Sam King with 11. Others scoring for the Junior Lady Warriors were Jordan Madden with four and Cara Pilgrim with two.
BIC cruised past marked Tree in first round action with a 46-18 victory. The Junior Lady Msutangs opened with a 16 first quarter and pushed the lead to 33-10 at the half. BIC galloped on for a 46-13 lead after three before advancing.
Jera Ashabranner led BIC with 11 followed by Jessica Shepard with 10. Kasey Garrett added nine for the Junior Lady Mustangs. Others scoring in the win were Ashley Tate six; Stephanie Baldridge four; Breanna Cole three; and Katie Olive three.
