Riverside's Lady Rebels took to the road last week and came up with two big non-conference wins over Armorel and Gosnell in senior girls basketball.
Riverside defeated Armorel on Monday night 64-49 after jumping out to a quick lead, 22-9 in the first quarter led by Amanda Dunigan's 10 first quarter points. The Lady Rebels extended the lead to 40-19 at the half, and led 54-38 going into the final frame.
Dunigan finished the night with a team high 15 points, including 6 of 8 at the free-throw line. Miranda Stephens also had double figures for the Lady Rebels with 10 points. Aiding the Rebel cause was senior Hailey Faulkner and sophomore Sam Dunigan with eight points apiece. Senior Amanda Jo Churchill returned to the line-up for the first time since the beginning of the season while nursing a knee injury and chipped in six points. Other scoring for Riverside included Miranda Boyd and Amanda Milligan with five points each, Keryn Douglas with three, and Ashley Foster and Magan Adams with two each.
Riverside sank 18 of 28 free throws and connected on four 3-pointers.
Armorel was led by Magen Williamson's game high 21 points, which included a 12 of 13 performance at the free-throw line. Lawren Brimer added 14 points to aid the Lady Tiger attack.
On Thursday night, the Lady Rebels handed Gosnell a 45-42 defeat as seniors Miranda Stephens and Amanda Dunigan led the way with 12 points each.
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, and extended their edge to eight points by the half, 26-18. Both teams played to a 13-13 standoff in the third quarter, before the Lady Pirates rallied by outscoring Riverside 11-6 in the final frame, only to fall short by three.
Aiding in the Rebel attack was Hailey Faulkner with five points, while four players scored four points each, including Keryn Douglas, Amanda Milligan, Sam Dunigan, and Miranda Boyd.
The Rebels managed only 6 of 14 at the free-throw line, while hitting three treys for the game.
The Lady Pirates were led by Ava Lamb who had a game high 17 points. Gosnell hit 10 of 17 free throws and nailed four 3-pointers.
The Lady Rebels are now riding a three-game winning streak, while improving their overall record to 7-2 on the year.
In junior high action, Riverside blasted the Lady Pirates 45-4 behind freshman Marissa Johnson's 16 points. Nine other Lady Rebels got in on the fun with Morgan Emery scoring six, Kailey Holt adding five, Katey Campbell with four, Kelsey Turner and Kasey Davis scoring three each, while Megan Short, Jamie Lawrence, Amber Murphy and Brianna Driver contributed two apiece.
Riverside will play host to Crowley's Ridge Academy Monday night at Lake City, before taking off for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Lady Rebels will return to action playing in the Tri-County Tournament December 1-6.
