The Buffalo Island Central Mustangs (8-0) (3-0) continued
their winning streak at Marmaduke last Tuesday night with
an 85-52 win over the Marmaduke Greyhounds.
The Mustangs were once again fueled by their potent
offensive firepower hitting 16, 3-pointers and 11 of 13 free
throw attempts.
"We shot the ball really well," said BIC coach Bill Taylor."
"Everything seemed to be falling for us."
Junior standout Brandon Ballard and senior forward Mark
Hawkins each hit five 3-pointers for the Mustangs while
scoring 27 and 17 points respectively. They were followed
in scoring by Brooks Taylor's 15 points, Josh Shepard's 10
points, and Cord Rose's eight points. Derek Rolland added
four points while Brett Sexton and Mark Teguns each
added 2.
Dane Boggs' 17 points led the Greyhounds. Jordan Gott
added 13 and Brian Potter chipped in 10 points.
The junior Mustangs improved their conference record to
2-1 with a victory over the Greyhounds by a score of
54-28. BIC was led in scoring by Lance Davis' game high
15 points. Also finishing with double figures was Jordan
Griggs with 13.
Rounding out the Mustangs scoring was Jordan Phillips
with seven, Garrett Qualls with six, Shane Barnes and
Daniel Carpenter with three each, and Mikey Arant and
Shane Harville finished with two each.
The Mustangs improve to 5-1 overall.
BIC continues to roll over their competition with a win over
the Crowley's Ridge Academy Falcons last Friday night at
Leachville.
The Mustangs, who are averaging 82 points per game this
season, scored a season low 62 points. They focused their
efforts instead on defense, giving up 24 points.
"We gave a really good defensive effort", said BIC coach
Bill Taylor.
The Mustangs remain hot from the free throw line,
connecting on 20 of 23 attempts.
Brooks Taylor had a game high 22 points to lead the way
for the Mustangs. Brandon Ballard chipped in 15 while
Josh Shepard added eight, Jonas Rose and Derek Rolland
each had six, Mark Hawkins added three and Cord Rose
finished with two points.
BIC improves to 4-0 in the conference and to 9-0 overall.
The junior Mustangs didn't fare so well, falling 66-48 to the
Falcons.
BIC was led by Garrett Qualls' 12 points, followed by
Jordan Griggs with eight, Jordan Phillips with seven, Lance
Davis, Terry Roach, and Trevor Matheny with six each,
and Shane Barnes with three.
For the junior Falcons, Michael Davis totaled 17 points
followed by Brandon Webb and Allen Williams with 10
each.
BIC fell to 2-2 in conference play and 5-2 overall.
In senior girls' action at Leachville Monday night, the BIC
Lady Mustangs improved their conference record to 2-1
with a win over the Crowley Ridge Academy Lady
Falcons by a score of 57-26.
The Lady Mustangs jumped out to an 18-5 lead after the
first quarter on their way to the victory.
"We got off to a good start. We were making our shots
and took control of the game early"; said BIC coach Mike
Kinard "it was a good win."
Leading the way for the Lady Mustangs was Jae
Ashabranner, who finished with a game high 21 points.
Ashabranner was helped by Holly Cagle, who added 15
points. Tara Roach added 10, Nan Lee Bridges
contributed nine, and Kelly Wright finished the game with
two points.
For the Lady Falcons, Emily Hicks chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Mustangs improved their record to 4-5.
The junior Lady Mustangs improve to 7-0 and 3-0 with
their win over the Lady Falcons by a score of 34-15.
Jessica Shepard paced the Lady Mustangs with her game
high 16 points. She was followed by Kasey Garrett who
added five, Katie Olive who added four, Lauren Smith
who finished with three, and Ashley Tate, Jera
Ashabranner, and Tiffany Parker who had two points each.
Bethany Johnson, Carissa Foshee, and Whitley Jones had
four points each for the Lady Falcons.
