Lake City council reviews proposed budget

The Lake City city council met in regular session on November 17, and worked through a short agenda.

The council reviewed the 2004 proposed budget in the amount of $565,447. The budget includes $50,000 in state funding earmarked for renovation of the old post office building for use by the Lake City senior citizens. The budget includes plans to purchase one new police car next year.

The 2004 budget will include $103,990 allocated for the Street Department, $222,865 for Water Department, and $111,063 for Sewer Department.

The council is expected to act on the proposed budged during the December meeting.

In other business, the council voted to raise the monthly mosquito control fee from $1 to $1.65, with the increase to be used to pay for a new sprayer.

After a lengthy discussion, the council tabled action on an ordinance regulating yard sales, until proposed amendments could be added. The proposed yard sale ordinance would limit three yard sales per household per year, and mandate that permits would be issued at City Hall, in writing.

Lake City will hold a Christmas parade on December 2, beginning at. 6:30. Faye Petty will serve as the parade chairman.

The next regularly scheduled council meeting will be on December 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at city hall.
