Manila Lady Lions open regular season with two wins against Armorel

The Lady Lions got their regular season underway last Monday with a big win over the Lady Tigers of Armorel. Manila used full court pressure to get an early advantage of Armorel. Manila led 13-4 after one and held a 22-18 lead at the half. MHS came out with the full court pressure to push their third quarter advantage to 39-25 and cruised on in for a 61-40 win to improve their record to 1-2.

Senior Natalie Tippy led the Lady's with 16 points followed by 12 from junior Amanda Henson and 10 from senior Michelle Eubanks. Audrey Booth added eight; Julie Dawson scored seven; and Ashley Girdley and Deborah White scored four each in the win.

Junior Lady Lions

The junior Lions looked tough with their 42-36 win over the junior Lady Tigers. After trailing 11-7 in the first, Manila took control in the second leading 22-17 at the half. MJHS continued to roll in the second half outscoring Armorel 12-8 in the third for a 34-25 advantage.

Freshman Katie Veach led the junior Lady Lions with 16 points. Adding to the win were Rachel Cheadle and Michelle Daniel with eight each; Kari Rameriz with six; Christin Chipman with three, and Kristy Burnett with one.

Manila - Marmaduke at Manila

The Lady Lions roared to a second win over Armorel at home on Thursday night with a 63-43 score. Manila scored 17 points in the first two quarters to take a commanding 34-14 at the half. The Lady Lions returned to the court in full control in the second half enjoying a 49-27 lead in the third before taking the win.

Junior Deborah White led all scorers with 20 points including six 3-pointers. Senior Natalie Tippy added 18 for the 2-2 Lady Lions. Others scoring in the victory were Amanda Henson - eight; Michelle Eubanks - seven; Julie Dawson - six; and Audrey Booth - four.

The Junior Lady Lions improved to 2-0 with a 38-15 win over Armorel. Manila led 10-7 after one and 17-7 at the half. Outscoring the Lady Tigers 14-4 in the third, Manila took a whopping 31-11 lead before cruising on for the win.

Michelle Daniel led MJHS with 10 points followed by Christen Chipman with nine. Others scoring for Manila were Kari Rameriz - six; Kristy Burnett - four; Candace Halford - three; Rachel Cheadle - two; Katie Veach - two; Rocio Bedolla - one and Amy Browning - one.
