Riverside finished the month of September by sweeping tennis matches in consecutive weeks against the Weiner Cardinals. The first match was played Sept. 23 at Weiner. Riverside's boys rolled to a 5-1 victory over the Cardinals, while the Lady Rebels shut out the Lady Cardinals 4-0.
In the Boy's single matches, the Rebels swept the Cardinals as Lee Blake rolled over Jeremy Riley 6-1, Josh Ball defeated Kyle Lawrence 6-4, and Zac Reynolds beat Bo Hicks 6-3. In doubles play, the team of Blake and Von McDaniel downed the Weiner twosome of Riley and Abe Reiman 6-2. The Rebel duo of Michael Dewitt and Kabe Taylor defeated the Cardinal's Todd Childers and Levi Flemon 6-3. Weiner got their only victory of the match as Lawrence and Steve Wilson beat the Rebel duo of Alex Smith and Tyler Timms 6-1.
In girl's action, Riverside whitewashed the Cardinals in both singles and doubles play. Chelsea Couch defeated Weiner's Michelle Jordan, 6-2, while Heather Webb downed Weiner's Krystal Wagster by the same score. In doubles action, Rebels' Miranda Boyd and Hailey Faulkner defeated the Weiner team of Monica Scott and Angela Tubbs 6-2. Webb then teamed with Keryn Douglas to shut out the Weiner pair of Lacey Gebhart and Teryn Wixon 6-0.
On Sept. 30, the matches switched to Lake City but the results were the same. Josh Ball and Zac Reynolds led a Riverside sweep in singles play with Ball downing Relman 6-3, while Reynolds whipped Flemon 6-4. In doubles action, the Rebel team of Blake-McDaniel blasted the team of Reiman-Riley 6-0. In the second match, Weiner rallied with a 7-5 win as Flemon and Childers outlasted the Rebel team of Dewitt-Taylor. In the rubber match, Senior Matt Owens teamed with sophomore Tyler Timms to beat the Cardinal duo of Childers-Wilson 6-1.
On the girls side, the Lady Rebs split two singles matches, losing the first 2-6 as Weiner's Jordan beat Miranda Boyd. Hailey Faulkner evened things up for Riverside in the second match with a 6-3 win over the Cardinals Wagster. The Rebels swept the doubles matches as Couch-Webb shut out the Weiner team of Scott Tubbs 6-0, and Douglas and Miranda Stephens downed the team of Gebhart-Wixon 6-3.
With the victories, the Rebel boys improve to 6-2 on the year, while the girls move their record to 4-2-2. Riverside wrapped up the season by hosting Walnut Ridge Monday afternoon.
