The 14th annual Big Lake Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday at the Manila Depot. The event is sponsored by the Manila Lions Club.
Tony Crowell, cook-off chairman, reminded everyone that there is still time to enter a team or a booth. Entries will be accepted through Sept. 26.
First, second and third place awards will be given in the junior and senior divisions for chili. Showmanship awards will be chosen and a People's Choice trophy will be awarded.
Crowell said teams will begin setting up at 6 a.m. and chili should be ready to sample by 10. Judging will take place at 11:30 and trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m.
The first place winner will have their entry fee paid to the Blytheville Chili Cook-Off.
Booth space is available for $25 for profit groups and $15 for non-profit organizations. Entry fee for chili teams is $20.
Any business or organization that would like to sponsor a team is welcome.
Some of the activities that are planned include face painting and games for all ages. The American Red Cross will offer deep fried Twinkies and the Manila Business Women will serve breakfast and have fried pies for sale.
The annual Mess Big Lake Chili Cook-Off pageant will be held at noon. This event is sponsored by the Manila FFA.
Entertainment will be held throughout the day at the bandstand.
Crowell encourages everyone to attend the chili cook-off.
