The Riverside Rebel tennis team began their 2003 season this week, as the sport of tennis changed from a spring to a fall sport.
Rebel tennis coach Terry Conner believes the change in seasons will be advantageous.
"We will have pretty good weather to practice and play in, and we won't have to compete with baseball and softball. I think the kids will like it better," added Conner.
The Rebel netters graduated seniors Dustin Kelems and Casey Peaster, both of whom had state tournament experience. The Lady Rebels will return Chelsea Couch, who was part of the state tournament duo with Peaster, as well as Hailey Faulkner and Miranda Boyd. Heather Webb is new to the team this year.
The boys' team will have Lee Blake and Von McDaniel returning. Coach Conner said he believes they can make it back to state competition. Also returning will be senior Josh Ball, as well as newcomers Kabe Taylor, Matt Owens, Michael Dewitt, Alex Smith, Matt Snyder, Zac Reynolds, Tyler Timms, and Blake Barnes. M.J. Emery will manage the Rebel netters.
