Riverside's Michael Dewitt was named to the American Legion All-Star baseball team recently and participated in the annual game which was played on Aug. 2 at the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith.
Dewitt was elected to the honor by opposing coaches in the AA Legion District. He played left field for Jonesboro AA Ricemen during the regular season. Dewitt enjoyed a banner season by placing in the top three in almost every offensive category. The Rebel senior led the Ricemen in hits with 50, including a team leading 33 singles. He also led the team with three triples and had a team leading 55 funs scored.
Dewitt placed second in several other offensive categories including homeruns with four, and a .556 slugging percentage. He was second on the team in RBI's with 35, 12 stolen bases and 22 walks.
Dewitt, who batted lead off for the Ricemen, was third on the team in batting with a .413 average. He also finished third in doubles with 10.
"It was a great experience. There was a lot of talent there. I saw several good pitchers and hitters," Dewitt said concerning the All-Star game.
Dewitt went 1 for 2 with a double in his two appearances at the plate against the South Legion All-Stars.
