It is once again time to get the ingredients together for the 14th annual Big Lake Chili Cook-off which will be held Saturday, Sept. 27. The event is sponsored by the Manila Lions Club. This year's chili cook-off chairman is Tony Crowell.
Crowell and other Lion members invites anyone that is interested to get a team together and join in the day.
In addition to cooking teams space is available for booths to individuals or organizations.
Entry forms are available at Towell's & Sons, Missco Insurance, Farmers Market, Farmers Carquest, First National Bank Scott's (formerly T.J.'s) or from any member of the Lions Club.
Trophies and cash prizes will be given for first, second and third place in cooking. Showmanship trophies will be awarded. There is a junior and senior division. A trophy will be awarded in People's Choice.
The Lion Club will have bowls available for $3 and that will allow people to sample all of the chili from the different teams.
There will be entertainment at the bandstand throughout the day. The 2003 Mess Big Lake Chili Beauty Review will be held at noon. Manila freshman FFA members volunteer for the pageant.
Dale Poag is the Manila FFA Adviser. He is very proud of his students for their participation in this community event. This year the FFA members with have at least 15 different teams preparing chili.
The Manila Business Women will be serving breakfast and homemade fried pies.
Crowell said he wants to encourage people to attend the event. It will be held at the Manila Depot area.
Cooking teams will be ready to serve by 10 a.m.
