Monday, Aug. 18, was the first day of school and the first day of golf. In years past, golf has been a high school spring sport but changed to the fall for the 2003 season.
Manila hosted the first match at Big Lake Country Club with three girls' teams and six boys' teams.
Girls' teams included Manila, Buffalo Island Central and Gosnell. Boys' teams participating included Manila, BIC, Harrisburg, Gosnell, Bay and Crowley Ridge Academy.
Manila girls took first place in the Monday match with a total score of 136. Members of the Manila girls' team are returning players Michelle Eubanks and Bethany Daley. First year players are Audrey Booth and K.C. Chipman. K.C. was unable to play in the first match.
Eubanks shot 44 for medalist honors. Dailey finished with a 57 and Booth 61.
Gosnell girls finished second with a team score of 193.
BIC girls' 2003 team are Nan Lee Bridges, Katie Olive and Brannah Barrett. Bridges came in second with a 47 behind Eubanks.
The Manila team is coached by Anthony Brewington and the BIC team is coached by Mari Hayden.
Members of the Manila boys' team are Scott Townsend, Denver Dulaney, Stephn Halfacre and Blake Reinhart.
The Manila boys' team finished second in the Monday match with a team score of 136 in the play-four, count-three format. Manila scores included Townsend 41, Halfacre 44, Dulaney 51 and Reinhart 64.
The Manila boys are coached by Anthony Brewington.
The BIC boys' team members are Cass Taylor, Eric Wallace, Chris Deeds and Anthony Sims. The BIC team finished with a 182 team score with Taylor 57, Wallace 65 and Deeds 60.
The BIC Boys are coached by Mike Bridges.
Winning first place in the boys' division was Crowley Ridge Academy posting a team 114. CRA's Joseph Wallis was medalist with 36 followed by Sean Frelfa 39, Chris Ford 39, Andy Hutchsion 48 and Carter Ford 44.
Other team scores in the boys' division were Bay in third place with 137 followed by Gosnell at 142, Harrisburg 159.
