Riverside girls attend cheerleader camp

The Riverside High School cheerleading squad recently attended the National Cheerleaders Association Camp held on the Lake City campus.

Cheerleaders learned side-line cheers, chants, stunts, and dances that can be used during basketball season and at pep rallies. The Riverside squad earned six superior ribbons during the camp as well as the team stunt-smart award.

Tiffany Timms and Megan Poskey made All-American Cheerleader and earned the opportunity to participate in either the Hula Bowl in Maui, Hawaii, Jan. 12-18 or the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla., Dec. 28-Jan. 2. The All-American Honor also earned Timms and Poskey the right to compete for trophies and scholarships at the National best Cheerleader and Dancer Scholarship Championship in Dallas, Texas, Dec. 29-31.

Other Riverside Cheerleaders nominated for the award were Whitney Owens, Whitney Shasteen, and Raven Howell.

In addition to All-American, Timms and Poskey received an award for motions, as did Owens and Shasteen. Poskey received an award for jumps, while Timms and Howell each received Herkie Leadership Awards. Robin Hansen won the stunt award.

Other members of the senior high squad include Tiffany Huskey and Breigh Dudley. Cheerleading sponsors are Kristen Emery and Brandi Wallace.
